Redefining Career Happiness: Shifting Gears Amid the Pandemic, Companies Find New Ways to Keep Employees Happy
CareerBliss today announces the “Happiest Companies During COVID” list, recognizing top companies from around the United States who have continued to provide positive and rewarding work environments.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the notion of workplace happiness has shifted. Remote working has become the norm for much of the workforce, living spaces have turned into offices, and pets have become coworkers. Despite the difficulty of the last few months, many companies are working hard to provide safe, happy, and productive working conditions for their employees. With the changing tides, new opportunities have emerged, including advanced technologies, skills, and increased flexibility.
Just as we’ve experienced a major shift in workplace dynamics, our CareerBliss 2020 list of Happiest Companies has also shifted. This year, we decided to reimagine the way we highlight happy companies, and for the first time will not be publishing the CareerBliss 50 Happiest Companies in America. To acknowledge the record layoffs and struggle many have endured, we decided to diverge from our traditional format to present a new set of helpful criteria. We are proud to announce the Happiest Companies During COVID.
These companies were carefully chosen from thousands of independent employee reviews from hundreds of companies over the last few months. Special consideration has been taken for companies that have found helpful ways for employees to weather the storm.
Happiest Companies During COVID
“The factors that affect workplace happiness have shifted over the past few months. Each year we are proud to present the 50 Happiest Companies in America, but this year’s unprecedented health crisis made us rethink what it means to be happy at work. While our team is dedicated to remaining transparent about the difficulties many organizations have endured, we are also proud to highlight the companies who have found new ways to keep employees happy amid the struggle,” says Heidi Golledge, CEO and Chief Happiness Officer of CareerBliss
“Watching these particular companies rethink their operations during the pandemic has taught us a lot about how to plan for the future. Google is offering work from home options to employees through late 2021 and is busy developing hybrid working models. Instead of resorting to mass layoffs, Verizon Wireless has instituted retraining programs to teach employees new skills and job advancement tools,” continues Golledge. “The ingenuity and resolve of the American workforce will prevail as we continue to discover creative ways to find happiness at work.”
What Makes Employees Happy During the Pandemic?
Whether it’s providing employees extra funds to spruce up their home workstations, meal delivery gift cards for lunches, or flexible hours for working parents, companies are finding creative ways to keep employees engaged while working from home. Companies on the CareerBliss Happiest Companies During COVID list are also focusing on important topics like diversity and inclusion.
“Apple Inc. is a great place for anyone looking to learn and grow within the tech industry. The team that surrounds you is always supportive and will provide direct feedback to help you improve your skills and refine your talents. Also, the company culture is fantastic and values diversity,” says an Apple employee in Mission Viejo, California.
“I believe that at Jacobs Engineering, people are the heart of their business. They have an excellent focus on inclusion, with a diverse team of doers.
